The Arete

Generally known as a mythological bird that lives a long, immortal life span, and represents fire, earth, air, and rebirth. These creatures are some of the rarest in the world, and as such, there is only seven living of the species at any one time. The reason behind this is due to each Phoenix representing one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility.
There is no concrete fact as to how this mystical species came into being, nor as to why, but many believe that they were created thousands of years ago by the Gods and Goddesses to be Demi-Gods and Demi-Goddesses on Earth that would guide the humans and instill Virtuous traits within them by breeding and intermixing with them.
Each Virtuous Phoenix can live a 'normal' life span between the age of five hundred, to a thousand years old before they will gradually begin to wither and eventually pass their soul on to its next lifetime. No lifetime is ever the same, nor do they stick to just one gender, though they are generally of the same light coloring, varying between blondes, light browns, and red-heads. Their eyes will reflect the color of their Virtue, a sure sign to others of their kind just what they are. Because Phoenixes are so very human like in appearance, it is difficult for anyone to figure out just what they are, even their own selves since when they are re-born they do not retain the full memory of their past lives, but only an occasional hazy memory. Another indication of their species is a noticeable birthmark that no matter the lifetime will always be found on the same body part. The birthmark is of course the symbol for their Virtue, and tends to glow their Virtue's color when an ability is being used or if they feel threatened, afraid, over stressed, or angry. When a Phoenix is happy, healthy, and under no stress or high emotions, the Virtue birthmark is relatively naked to the human eye...and only another Phoenix or a Thunderbird will be able to see it for what it really is.
Phoenixes live the first thirteen or so years of their lives as normal humans, and when puberty hits their powers are awakened within them, also bringing about their Virtue mark.
Due to being created in the image of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, each Phoenix will mentally represent the Virtue they are born to be, in every re-incarnated form they gain. In their lifetimes they will always strive to set examples for everyone else, whether it is knowingly or unknowingly, wanting to spread their influence for the good of the World and its inhabitants. They are a force of Good and Light, above all else, and never stoop to any wrong or evil doing. If any Phoenix is corrupted by a Thunderbird before their life span has been completed, the Phoenix will perish early in that lifetime, having failed their duties in spreading their Virtue throughout the world, and they will be re-incarnated once again, though failing causes the re-incarnation process to take longer than normal, leaving the World without that Virtuous influence for a time.
If a Phoenix and a Thunderbird fall in love and mate, both beings will lose any abilities or powers that they possess, and their aging will cease to be immortal, leaving them to become nothing more than an average human, living an average human life span; though they will retain their birthmark and oddly colored eyes. When this happens, the next member in their blood family lineage to reach puberty will be 'awakened' as the next Virtue or Sin respectively, their soul becoming the one to be re-incarnated lifetime after lifetime from that point on.
Though they are considered 'immortals' because no man made weapon will harm them, as stated above, they do have an actual life span, though it can be cut short if they are corrupted to the side of evil, or their opposite in element is used against them. In the case of Phoenixes, their natural born enemy, the Thunderbird, and their elements: Electricity, Water, and Air, are highly volatile against a Phoenix. Air not so much, as both species are born of it, but when Electricity and Water are used together by any species against a Phoenix, it can have dangerous consequences such as a loss of abilities and even memory of what they are...separately the elements will only severely wound the Phoenix. If the Virtue's opposite Thunderbird Sin is the one to strike them with their opposite elements, then the results could ultimately be quite fatal.
As any species, the Phoenix is group minded and will often times unintentionally and unknowingly flock to one another, creating a group...safety in numbers right? When two or more Phoenixes gather together in one area it is known as a Arete, or Virtue in Greek. Unlike other species, though they have leaders, Phoenixes rule mostly as a democracy, the Aden and Adena only the figureheads used to enforce the decisions of the others and to procure anything they may need for safety and living peacefully. In times of war with their enemy the Thunderbird, the Aden and Adena are generally the ones who will handle all negotiations and will devise any plans of defense if needed. Attacking is not an option as Phoenixes are a source of good and light and will never harm someone as it would spiral them into the side of evil and corrupt their fragile existence.

Other Info

The Amartie

Generally known as a mythological bird that lives a long, immortal life span, and represents electricity, water, air, and destruction. These creatures are some of the rarest in the world, and as such, there is only seven living of the species at any one time. The reason behind this is due to each Thunderbird representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.
There is no concrete fact as to how this mystical species came into being, nor as to why, but many believe that they were created thousands of years ago by the Gods and Goddesses to be Demi-Gods and Demi-Goddesses on Earth that would corrupt the humans and instill deadly and evil traits within them by breeding and intermixing with them.
Each Sinful Thunderbird can live a 'normal' life span between the age of five hundred, to a thousand years old before they will gradually begin to wither and eventually pass their soul on to its next lifetime. No lifetime is ever the same, nor do they stick to just one gender, though they are generally of the same dark coloring, varying between dark brunettes, dark blondes, and black hair. Their eyes will reflect the color of their Sin, a sure sign to others of their kind just what they are. Negotiations, and hiding are never something the Thunderbirds will consider, less they become too soft and weak and unfit to spread their Sin throughout the world.
